When I was perhaps 12 or 13, I was given a copy of To Kill a Mocking Bird as a present from a family member. Now a University student studying for my journalism degree, the novel remains as one of my absolute favourites, as well as one of the original books that sparked my passion for literature.
So I’d like this post to be a thank you to Harper Lee; for inspiring and teaching not only myself but countless others with her insightful words.
‘Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in cornribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.’
Rest in Peace, Harper Lee.
