Summer Reading List & Giveaway!

Hello lovelies! It’s been a crazy couple of months and I’ve been so busy I’ve neglected my blog completely! But with the summer ahead, I plan to come back better than ever, and to make up for my absence I thought I would do a little giveaway! You can find out how to enter at the bottom of the post, enjoy!

Now anybody who knows me will know I’m a bit of a book worm. I’m also one of those annoying people who won’t watch a film with you if there’s a book version I haven’t read first. But hey seeing as the weather has been bloody beautiful lately, I highly doubt many of us are going to be sat inside watching films all day.
As I fully intend to spend a large proportion of my summer sat in my garden reading some new material, I thought I’d share with you a list of some of my favourite books to hopefully give you some reading inspo.

Savages – Shirley Conran

This is a story of female survival against the odds, full of strong characters this is one of my all time favourite books and a read I would reccomend to every young woman.

The Bell Jar – Sylvia Plath

I don’t think this one needs any explaining, it’s an iconic novel and one that I fell in love with after studying Plath at A-Level.

Harry Potter – J.K Rowling

I haven’t put a specific book here because frankly I just believe everyone needs to read the Harry Potter series at least once in their life. These books made my childhood and I’ve continued to love them into my adult years.

To Kill a Mocking Bird – Harper Lee

A family member gave me this book for christmas one year when I was much younger. I read it and loved it, but it’s definitely one of those books that every time you read it you take something else from it.

Girl Boss – Sophia Amoruso

Girl Boss is the story of Sophia Amoruso and her rise from thrift shopper and ebay savvy seller to the creator of Nasty Gal. I reccomend this book to any gal on the grind, if this story doesn’t motivate you to keep doing what you’re doing, I don’t know what will.

Unwind – Neal Shusterman

I read this book when I was quite a bit younger, and must admit I haven’t revisited it, but its concept and the dystopian future it’s set in makes it a brilliant read for anyone who’s a fan of the Hunger Games or The Handmaid’s Tale.

The Book Thief – Markus Zusak

This book is tragically beautiful. A young jewish girl living with a foster family in 1939 Nazi Germany steals books in order to escape the death and destruction going on all around her.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland – Lewis Carrol

I’ve always loved Alice in Wonderland, and Tim Burtons adaptation is truly brilliant in my opinion. But the original book is second to none, and I think anybody who loves the films should definitely try the book. (p.s. look at this beautiful copy my sister got for me last christmas!)

Bridget Jones’ Diary – Helen Fielding

One of my all time favourite films and one of my all time favourite books. This is my go whenever I’m feeling like crap, gone through a breakup or generally just need a pick me up.

Once & Then – Morris Gleitzman

Another novel set during the Holocaust, this book brought me to tears. Like The Book Thief it is both tragic and beautiful at the same time, with the horrific events taking place juxtaposing with the young protagonists imagination and hope.

A Song of Ice and Fire – George R. R. Martin

AKA Game Of Thrones. Yes the series is amaaaazing, but the books are just something else. There is so much more detail, so many extra plot lines, yes they’re long but my god are they brilliant.

Life of Pi – Yann Martel

I read this book for the first time when I was in high school and fell in love. It’s one of those books that fully immerse you, you won’t be able to put it down.

Animal Farm – George Orwell

A classic, and something everyone should read in their lifetime. Just like To Kill A Mockingbird, for me it’s one of those books that gives me something new every time I read it.

These are just some of my favourite books, and I hope there’s at least one in this list that pulls you in! Feel free to comment your favourite book(s) down below!

And now for the giveaway! I’ve never run one before, but I was recently given a copy of Girl Boss and seeing as I already have my own I thought I would give a copy to one of you lovelies (I may even through some other goodies in there too!) I love the book and it really motivated me to get my arse into gear with pursueing what I love.
